Although only 4% ahead, the primary motivation for SaaS companies that have tried AI SEO was to gain a competitive advantage (33%), followed closely by experimenting with AI tools (29%), and 4% who said this was a partial motivation, while reducing manual SEO work motivated 26%. Only 1% said that improving content visibility was their primary motivator, and another 1% that it was a minor motivation, while less than 1% expressed the same opinion about increasing organic traffic. Interestingly, 4% said that gaining a competitive advantage was not a motivating factor, despite the advantage AI SEO offers.

Considering AI discovery was up 527% in the first five months of 2025 compared to the same time period in 2024, gaining a competitive advantage is more important than ever, and it’s clear that curiosity and competitiveness are driving most AI SEO adoption.

With 89% of SaaS companies that have tried AI SEO saying that they sometimes find out about new solutions by attending marketing or tech events, and 4% saying this is their main method of discovery, it’s clear that word of mouth (WOM) advertising is still incredibly powerful. Comparatively, online research and comparison sites were sometimes used by 4%, and social media and online communities were the main method of discovery for just 3%.

This aligns with Statista's findings that WOM is the leading source of brand discovery in the US at 36%, with social media and mobile app ads scoring below 32% and 21%, respectively.

The use of AI SEO in marketing workflows varies among SaaS companies that utilize it, but there are some clear trends in its regularity.

Those who use it quite a bit daily for ongoing campaigns number 20%, while 10% use it not very much on a day-to-day basis. 19% use it quite a bit but still rarely for specific projects, 11% not very much, and 28% use it quite a bit weekly for content updates, with only 1% saying they don’t use it very much.

Considering research shows that in 2023, 86.07% of enterprise SEO professionals had already integrated AI technologies into their SEO strategy, it’s interesting to see that our audience is not utilizing this form of optimization more.

The accuracy of AI recommendations is a close third, with 22% saying it's a top priority. Lastly, reputation and industry reviews are only a top priority for 2%, despite studies showing that 54% of consumers trust online reviews when making purchasing decisions. Surprisingly, cost and pricing structure had no opinions, even though they play a major role in business operations.

This shows just how much trust and usability matter when adopting new technology, and that for SaaS companies, functionality alone isn’t enough; confidence in the tool’s performance and backing is what drives long-term adoption.

Costs and a lack of expertise pose the biggest challenges:

Loading chart…

Challenges Faced When Using AI SEO Solutions A stacked bar chart illustrating the perceived severity of various challenges encountered with AI SEO tools.

Although no opinions were recorded on how cost and pricing structure influence SaaS companies' decisions when choosing an AI SEO tool, when it comes to costs versus results, there are strong opinions. 49% of SaaS companies cite the high cost for limited results as somewhat challenging when using AI SEO solutions, 11% say it's a major challenge, and 6% a minor issue.

Aside from social media, blog posts and articles scored low opinion levels, with 3% saying AI SEO was somewhat helpful. There were no opinions recorded on whether AI SEO benefits landing and product pages or technical or knowledge base content, proving that these content types were far less of a priority than social media, blogs, and articles.
